The 2009 NYS Road Racing Schedule has been released. With this in mind, here's where you might see some Ommegangsters in 2009. The bold items are some of the key races team members should make an effort to participate in. The non-bold listings, while not all inclusive, are some of the events that team members have historically attended. Disclaimer: As with all things in cycling, this list will probably change with additions, deletions and revisions. Stay current with info at http://www.nybra.info/ or race calendars like http://www.spokepost.com/ or at http://www.syracusebicycle.com/

Just remember this is the "roadie" schedule and some other team favorites may not be listed (hint, hint ... Black Fly Challenge on June 13, 2009 and CX @ Brewery Ommegang on October 4, 2009). There's also been a growing buzz about some mountain bike events as well (i.e., Highland, etc.). If you have any suggestions for the skinny tires or knobbies, leave a comment.

Hope to see ya out there ...... and if you're nice and open a spot for one of us in the paceline, stop by after the race, we might have a most lucious Belgian-style recovery drink for ya.

Obamagang ?!? Beer You Can Believe In

Political Lefties can rejoice & Political Righties can cry in their beer ... literally. Yes, Brewery Ommegang has released OBAMAGANG. Or you might call it "Ale 2009". Apparently it started as a one-off label for a gift bottle and now is being distributed as a draft.
Brewery Notes: "The beer itself is a dark ale close to a stout, but hinting at a porter. At 6.2% and full of robust roasted malt and chocolate flavors, "Obamagang" is fortifying yet highly drinkable. Using the Ommegang house yeast and just a touch of Belgian Kriek, an underlying fruitiness adds to a full-bodied and well-rounded celebratory ale".
If you wanna find out where to get your left (or right) hand on some or just find out more about the new brew, check out the Ommegang news release on their website: www.Ommegang.com. For the Syracuse area Ommegangsters, I'll see ya at the Blue Tusk or Empire! Cheers.

Ride Soul Brothers & Sisters, Ride Soul

The good folks at Soul Cycles are supporting Team SCARR-Ommegang with special opportunities for 2009. If you like getting dirty, or the idea of getting dirty, make sure you give Soul Cycles a look. You might even see a few of the Ommegangsters showing off their new found "Soul" in the form of some kick-ass 29ers mountain rigs.
You can get the scoop on Soul Cycles at www.ridesoul.com/ .... and keep in mind there's more to Soul than 29ers -- the website describes current offerings as well as development work. And if your not sure if Soul is for you, check out what some of the trade mags have had to say about Soul's offerings or do a little independent web type sleuthing. Just be forewarned you might need to start working on a good "justification" line for your significant other so you can put some Soul in your stable.
Stay tuned for more Soul updates, we might have some exciting news in the future ... in the mean time ....
