Herbal Conditioner

Our resident cyclo-hippie musician (the one and only William Nicholson ) is gathering up the band (The Herbs) for a gig in the 'Cuse on May 9. You may recognize William as the virtuoso cat with the harp guitar or the climber cat with the dirty yellow bike, or maybe both. Details per William .....

The band will be performing at the very hip Funk & Waffles on S. Crouse Ave. (where Hungry Charley's was?) on Saturday night May 9th. Show time probably 8:00 PM. This is an all-ages venue and thus you can bring the kiddies, the tentative significant other, whatever. It's a cool locally owned joint with great music and really great food. This will be the full band - post studio recording and all lubed up. Many people still consider going out at night to see live music to be a viable lifestyle choice. Are you one of them? Cool, see you there.

GVCC Bloomfield Race Report -- 1st & 2nd

From EG:

Me, AJ, Jeremy K., and Aaron J. represented the Ommegangsters in a tight race right to the finish. The two lap course was mostly rolling hills, and with no major climbs the majority of the group was able to stay together until the finish. With about five miles to go I got frisky and took a shot at a breakway that lasted about a mile before I sat up and started telling myself how stupid I was. I rejoined the group and worked in with AJ and Aaron hiding from the wind and trying to conserve some energy for what what shaping up to be a field sprint. With about a mile to go the Ommegangsters moved up in the group trying to gain good position for the final right turn and short "power climb" before the finishing flat. Through the turn and up the climb the pace accelerated and thinned the group out. AJ dropped the hammer and took off over the top of the climb and got a 20 yard gap off the front with about 500 yards to go. I was able jump away and bridge up to AJ and the two of us were able put about 5 seconds on the pack. I crossed the line just ahead of AJ giving the Ommegangsters a 1-2 finish. Aaron crossed the line a few seconds later banging elbows and bars with the remainder of the lead group. Jeremy finished right in the mid-twenties, not bad at all for his first road race. Good results, beautiful weather, an all around good day for the crew.

From GD:

For the Masters crew, the 43 mile race contained Greg D, Dan F & Jeff W. While not quite posting the result of the other guys, we finished top 1/2 with Dan making an unsuccessful break attempt with some uncooperative rivals and Jeff W at the front of the main pack for most of the race. A Canadian team had the numbers and horsepower and played it perfect in the end. Jeff''s result was not indicative of what should have been as he locked wheels with a dude that dropped his chain on the finish climb and had to unclip and yank his bike off the other guy's. Congrats to Jeff's wife for a great placing in the ladies race and congrats to Dave F (one of those rival friends) on a nice result as well. (Despite the results noting that the Masters winner was an Ommegangster, we love the PR but can't claim him as ours.)

CYLRR -- Race Report

April 11: Seven (yes 7) Ommegangsters showed up to the Check Your Legs Road Race in New Lisbon, NY.
From CNYC Website: Roughly 70 riders showed up for the 2009 CYLRR. Windy and cool conditions. But a good day for racing. CNYC's Ad Stabel kept his impressive run of results at the CYLRR by taking the win in the B category. Small but competitive fields contested the A and Woman's categories. In the A Race....Wayne Bray made a bold solo effort for most of the 3 laps. He was beaten at the end of the day; but, certainly awarded the most aggressive riders prize. In the end it was Benjamin Salibra taking the win for the A riders. The top 3 women battled for two laps with Sarah Krzysiak winning.
Top Team finisher was Dan F in 7th out of the 50 person field. Eric G rode strong as did AJ ('til he flatted) & Cory who were near the front with Greg D, Skinny Phil & Big Indian Mike placing mid pack.
Full results at Spokepost.com or CNYC's website .
Congrats to our friends Sarah, Ad & Ben.

Johnny Cake Johnny Cake Racer Man -- Recap

March 28th - Coxsackie, NY
Saturday was the day it seemed the entire New England region turned out to see how they would hold up racing against every other cycling nut who has been in the gym, on the trainer, and braving icy roads throughout the winter season. The weather was beautiful. Without leaves on the trees, the wind was formidable, but the sun was in full effect. 184 riders showed up for the day and three were represent'n Team SCARR / Ommegang. Anthony R. and Corey P (ages strictly private) were starting with the B Group, and Mike W. was starting with the C Group.
The C Group stayed together for the majority of the race with a good number being dropped off the back. The pace was fast with Favata's Table Rock Tours showing strong by dominating the front for the majority of the race. 4 riders broke off the front about 1/4 of the way into the second lap. Surprisingly, no one in the pack decided to chase. One of the four was pulled back in with the third holding strong because of pack posturing. Conserving energy for the sprint was the primary goal by this point, and after a large number in the sprint to the line, the numbers played out like this: http://www.bikereg.com/Results/2009/03/28-Johnnycake-Spring-Series.asp
The B Group became split into two groups early on with a few in between and quite a few off the back. The caliber of riders in the B Group was impressive. To Dieter Drake's credit, the B Group pack was being dominated by an up-and-coming Farm Team Rider. It was a treat to watch a young lad give the big boys a run for their money. In the end, there were two riders off the front who were well ahead of the pack when they came down to the line.
April 4th - Coxsackie
Saturday was shivering cold with high winds, drizzle, and total overcast. Warm up rides were brutal and avoiding the cold before the race was priority. 128 riders showed and 5 from Team SCARR / Ommegang were there representing. Anthony R. and Corey P. were styl'n with the B Group, and Eric G, A.J., and Mike W. were rock'n the C Group.
C Group was fast as usual, but this week there were more heavy hitters who came to play. With the high winds, the field became split fairly quickly and the lead pack stretched out in a lengthy line with no one wanting to be caught in it. Eric, AJ, and Mike were having a good time bouncing around in the pack until a fairly rough crash sent whoever was left hammering to the line. If you lost the pack at this point, all hope was lost of chasing them down. This is how it played out in the end: http://www.bikereg.com/Results/2009/04/04-Johnnycake-Spring-Series.asp--
We didn't get a chance to see the B Group finish because after our finish, we (AJ, Eric, and Mike) put in another 12 miles through some incredible roads with pretty nice hills right outside the event. This is when I realized I needed to pack in some serious intervals if I plan on keeping up with these two.
