Big Brewery News -- Can't Wait

Brewmaster Phil Leinhart − and the entire Ommegang brew staff − are kicking off a 2010 Innovation Program, beginning with a Specialty Beer initiative. These are six beers, four totally new, to complement Ommegang’s year-round beer lineup. Six beers will be released, one every two months, starting in January/February 2010.

The Specialty Beers and schedule:
Jan-Feb 2010: Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout. (Very slightly revised for the 2010 edition.)
Mar-Apr: Ommegang BPA (Belgian-style Pale Ale - 5.8% ABV. 5 malts, 2 hops, and dry-hopped. Citrus & tropical fruit aromatics.)
May-Jun: Ommegang Tripel (name not yet confirmed - Around 9% ABV, spiced -- in test brew stages.)
Jul-Aug: Ommegang Sour Ale. (Around 6% ABV. Oud Bruin style beer made in collaboration with Liefmans of Belgium. Name TBD.)
Sep-Oct: Ommegang Scotch Ale. (A new Belgo-Scotch mash up. ABV, name and even recipe still to be confirmed.)
Nov-Dec: Ommegang Adoration. (Still 10% ABV, still malty, still big and spicy. But may be tweaked a bit.)

Finally, Ommegang is ageing several of our high-gravity beers in oak bourbon barrels, for further experiments and tasting.

New Year ... New Name.... New Faces ...

Phew, the holidays are behind us. It is always surprising how much we look forward to the holidays but then seem just as relieved when they wind down and we get back to our normal routines.

The big news for the New Year is that the 2009 vewrsion of Team SCARR - Ommegng is now Team Ommegang - Syracuse Bicycle for the 2010 season. Syracuse Bicycle has really stepped up their support so now the pressure is on us to represent.

With the new name in the New Year, we'll also see some new faces sporting the Ommegang - Syracuse Bicycle colors out there on the bike. We're looking forward to mixing it up out there with the new guys and hoping they bring some good character and good results for the team.

And with the holidays over, folks must be getting back in the cycling mindset as there has already been some chatter about various 2010 events including Battenkill, Ramble Around Prattsburgh, Singlespeedapalooza and ah yes, Black Fly just to name a few.

So if you haven't already, dust off the trainer, get out the XC skiis, and put the fenders on the winter bike, it's time !!
