RedCross 10/23 & Park Ave CX 10/24

Another Saturday-Sunday combo on offer ... CX options included a good "cross"-section of the upstate NY CX scene... South to RedCross in Richford on Saturday, East to the Saratoga Spa CX on Sunday as well as West to the Park Ave race near Rochester on Sunday as well.

Ommegangsters represented well at RedCross & Park Ave with some decent placings which included a little podium action at RedCross.

Sean B's summary from RedCross:
It was a crazy course, you could get good air in a few spots. They combined the 3/4 field with the college field. I of course flatted my new tubular on the first lap. After spending some time in the pit. A chased back and came in 6th in the 3/4, 11th overall with the college guys. Mile K came in 7th overall. The masters field saw Dave Y 2nd and AJ F 3rd. King Karl and Paul S were also in the top ten with 8th place and 10th.  Skinny brought in a top 5 in the 1,2,3 field with rumors of a guy riding a crazy run up.

Drummroll's summary fromn Park Ave:
Binghamton may have the Kross Kontingent but the there appears to be Caz 'Cross Contingent on the prowl putting the hurt on the Masters CX  fields this year   Ommegangster friends Tim O and Dave F continued their strong CX seasons with top 3 finishes at Park Ave.  On the Ommegangster side of things, Drummroll managed a 4th after a couple of driving errors on a slick course that saw most everyone go down at one point or another.

[.. . and some Ommegangsters were certainly psyched to see Adam Myerson get a UCI win at New Gloucester.   Whether a fan, or not (or indifferent), you gotta respect his unwavering passion for 'cross..... Props to AM for his win.]

Uncle Sam & Syracuse GP .. more podium!

The Ommegangsters were out in force this past weekend representing at the Uncle Sam CX event in Troy and then again on Sunday in Syracuse.   Skinny Phil & the Rooster raced Uncle Sam Saturday and Sunday respectively with some pretty respectable results while a good number of the gang seemed to be resting up for the Syracuse GP on Sunday.  At Syracuse, The King pulls out the top podium spot in the Masters event while 12 Team Ommegang - Syracuse Bicycle members toed the line for the start of the Open Men's race.   Props to AJ F as well as he also posted a top 3 spot in the Masters event at Syracuse.  Great turnout, great results.

... and the rest of the regular CXers from last weekend

While some of the Ommegangsters hit the Iron Cross last weekend, a few jumped into the more "traditional" type CX races.   King Karl was the lone Ommegangster at the Swandrome event fininshing a respectable 9th overall (& presumably a bit higher in the Masters).   Another batch of Ommegangsters headed to Cobbs Hill event in Rochster.  Jason H, Jeremy K, Fast Freddy, Skinny Phil & Drummroll all participated in their respective categories.  Good representation all around with a couple podiums spots by Fast Freddy & Drumroll in the 3/4 race and older guys 45+ group.
Syracuse Grand Prix on tap next !

Team Ommegang - Syracuse Bicycle at IronCross

Dave Yacobelli and Paul Speranza ventured down to the Micheaux State Forest in southern PA for the epic 62 mile Iron Cross race. The course starts in cyclocross fashion with a spiral and 2 sets of barriers before leading into a fast dirt road out of Camp Thompson, the onto an interesting mix of dirt road, trail, singletrack, dirt road climbs, steep dirt road climbs, steeper dirt descents, more single track, 2 huge run ups (more like climb ups) and a little bit of pavement. Did we mention there is a lot of dirt road and trail?  ... Guessing there was 6 to 7,000 feet of climbing. A perfectly chilly fall morning gave way to temperatures in the low 70s by mid race. It is a mass start race with racers staged by expected finish times. Dave Y started off fast and furious running in the top 10 most to finish finished 2nd in the Masters and 12th overall. Paul S salvaged an early mechanical (broken rear rim/spoke) and got to practice his trail side wheel truing :) The repair was good enough to finish mid pack in a little over 5 hours. Overall an awesome event put on by Mike Kuhns and sponsored by Stan’s Notubes.com.

2010 CX @ Brewery Ommegang Recap

Quite a day at Brewery Ommegang -- some serious karma points were used to get the chamber of commerce weather for our fourth year event.

Where to start ... well, how about the racers that shwed up and made this a success THANK-YOU!.  Then we have to thank the brewery for hosting us as well as Syracuse Bicycle for doing the "pit crew" thing as well as supplying swag.  Endurance Factor, Chomper Body, Road ID, and Soul Cycles also all chipped in with swag as well.  And a special thanks to the Team Ommegang - Syracuse Bicycle members and other friends of the team that showed up to lend a hand to help with one of more aspects of making the race happen.

How cool was it to see the ginormous bottles of Ommegang (Jerobaums) given away as prizes not to mention the guy who won the "win your weight in beer".  Another lucky dude won the 2 tickets to BCTC and many others took away Ommegang, Chomper Body, Soul Cycles, Syracuse Bicycle, Road ID and Endurance Factor swag.

From a race results perspective, there was some podium action by the Ommegangsters as well as some top 10 action.  (We also missed last weekend as far as results with Ommegangsters racing at the Ellison Park CX event -- with Skinny Phil running with the big dogs and a couple others on the podium.  Last weekend also saw some Ommegangsters at the Buck Hill CX event with Jason H (aka Bob) doing 50 miles on the MTB at teh Vermont 50.)
